Introduction:

Global Goal 17 is tackling the root causes of economic migration by addressing intergenerational poverty through comprehensive educational support. By focusing on children living under 60% of the median income in their respective countries, we aim to provide sustainable solutions that reduce the necessity for economic migration.

Economic Migration and Poverty:

Economic migration often stems from a lack of opportunities in home countries, compelling individuals and families to seek better prospects elsewhere. This migration is frequently driven by poverty, inadequate education, and limited access to economic resources.

Global Goal 17’s Strategy:

Our approach centers on breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty by directly supporting the education of children from disadvantaged backgrounds. We believe that empowering these children with quality education and holistic development opportunities can create long-term economic stability and reduce the need for migration. Here’s how:

1. Access to Quality Education:

Providing Scholarships and Resources

By offering scholarships and educational resources to children from low-income families, we ensure they have the necessary tools to succeed academically.

Improving School Infrastructure:

Investing in school infrastructure, including digital resources and learning materials, creates a conducive learning environment.

2. Holistic Development Programs:

Integrating Sports and Life Skills:

Our programs go beyond academics to include sports, health education, and life skills training, fostering well-rounded development.

Mental Health Support:

Providing mental health support ensures that children can overcome personal challenges and focus on their education.

3. Community Engagement and Support:

Involving Local Leaders:

Collaborating with community leaders, teachers, and parents ensures that the support system is comprehensive and locally relevant.

Building Sustainable Models:

Developing sustainable educational models that can be replicated in various regions ensures long-term impact.

4. Economic Empowerment:

Vocational Training:

Offering vocational training and career guidance helps children transition from education to employment, reducing economic disparities.

Entrepreneurship Programs:

Encouraging entrepreneurial skills and providing micro-financing options for youth to start their own businesses creates local economic opportunities.

5. Advocacy and Policy Support:

Influencing Policy:

Working with governments to advocate for policies that support inclusive education and poverty reduction.

Public Awareness Campaigns: Raising awareness about the importance of education in combating poverty and preventing economic migration.

Impact on Economic Migration:

By addressing the root causes of economic migration, Global Goal 17’s approach aims to:

Reduce the Need for Migration: Providing education and economic opportunities locally reduces the need for individuals to seek better prospects abroad.

Enhance Local Economies: Educated and skilled individuals contribute to the local economy, creating a more prosperous community.

Improve Quality of Life: With access to education and economic resources, families can achieve better living standards, reducing the push factors for migration.

Conclusion:

Global Goal 17’s comprehensive strategy to end intergenerational poverty through direct educational support is a sustainable solution to economic migration. By empowering children from disadvantaged backgrounds, we are not only transforming individual lives but also contributing to the economic stability and development of entire communities. This approach aligns with our mission of creating a world where every child has the opportunity to thrive in their home country, ultimately reducing the need for economic migration.

Introduction

At Global Goal 17, we are dedicated to breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty through education. We provide children in need with access to quality education, empowering them to take control of their futures. Our scholarship-driven approach focuses on direct action, making a tangible difference in the lives of the children we support.

Our History

Global Goal 17 was founded in 2019 with a vision inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are committed to contributing to the achievement of these goals by 2030. Our name reflects our dedication to SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), and we also prioritize SDGs 1 (No Poverty), 4 (Quality Education), and 10 (Reduced Inequalities). Our mission is to empower sustainable futures and end intergenerational poverty through equal education for all, one child scholarship at a time. We envision a world where every child has access to equal-quality education, breaking the cycle of poverty and fostering a sustainable future for all.

Our Charitable Objective

Global Goal 17 focuses on empowering children from underprivileged backgrounds, particularly those from families subsisting on less than 60% of the median income in their country of residence or from ethnic minority backgrounds. We achieve this through educational support and scholarships. Our charitable objectives strictly adhere to the guidelines set by the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.

Our Projects:

PENDO: Partnership in Education for National Development Outcomes

One of our flagship programs is PENDO (Partnership in Education for National Development Outcomes), which exemplifies our collaborative approach. Through PENDO, we partner with local schools and grassroots community organizations in Kenya to support SDG Goals 1, 4, 10, and 17. This program embodies the spirit of collective action and shared commitment towards a sustainable future.

By providing direct scholarship support to underprivileged children, we help them access quality education and build a brighter future.

Charitable Purposes

Global Goal 17's charitable purposes are centred on taking direct action to empower children from underprivileged backgrounds through educational support and scholarships. This includes children from families earning less than 60% of the median income in their country and those from ethnic minority backgrounds.

What We Achieve

Our charity is set up to achieve general charitable purposes with a focus on education, training, and research. Specifically, we aim to advance education by providing bursaries, scholarships, grants, and other educational resources.

How We Achieve It

We achieve our goals by making grants to individuals and providing educational services. This includes funding for educational supplies, extra-curricular resources, and study costs for children who excel or need additional support due to financial constraints.

Who We Help

Our organization primarily helps children and young people, particularly those from families with an income of less than 60% of the median income in their country. We also focus on children from ethnic minority backgrounds.

Where We Operate

Global Goal 17 operates both within and outside of England and Wales. Our international focus includes countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, DRC Congo, and Southern Sudan.

Advancing Education

We aim to advance education in all subjects within the national curriculum of each country we operate in, with a particular focus on Maths, Language, Sciences, and Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education. We also emphasize environmental and sustainable practices.

Ensuring Quality Education

Our trustees ensure that all those providing education are suitably qualified. Schools, tutors, and teachers are fully qualified, registered, and have undergone safeguarding training and background checks.

Carrying Out Our Purpose

Global Goal 17 provides scholarship opportunities to children from underprivileged backgrounds. We have a network of volunteers and committees in various countries that connect with schools and communities to identify and support potential beneficiaries. Our selection criteria for scholarships include family income, the child's natural talents or struggles due to financial stresses, and ethnic background.

Benefits of Our Purpose

The primary benefit of our purpose is increasing access to education for children who might otherwise miss out. By funding and supporting their education, we provide them with opportunities to succeed and break the cycle of poverty.

Overseas Aid

Global Goal 17 addresses educational needs in overseas locations through scholarships for educational resources, materials, and fees. We work with local partners such as schools and churches to identify and support beneficiaries, ensuring funds are used effectively for educational purposes.

Monitoring and Accountability

We have formal agreements with our partners, including Memorandums of Understanding, to ensure transparency and accountability. Schools and churches report back on the impact of the educational support provided.

Conclusion

At Global Goal 17, we believe that education is the key to a sustainable future. By providing scholarships and educational support to underprivileged children, we are breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering the next generation to thrive. Our commitment to the United Nations SDGs and our collaborative approach ensures that we make a lasting impact in the communities we serve. Together, we can create a world where every child has the opportunity to succeed through education.

Breaking the Chains of Poverty: How Education Empowers Futures

Poverty is a complex issue that affects millions of lives worldwide. However, one powerful tool has the potential to break the cycle of poverty and transform futures: education. In this blog post, we explore the undeniable linkages between education and poverty, highlighting how organisations like Global Goal 17 are making a difference through their innovative approaches to education.

Education is more than just acquiring knowledge; it is a pathway to opportunity and empowerment. Studies show that individuals with higher levels of education are more likely to secure stable employment, earn higher incomes, and escape the cycle of poverty. In fact, each additional year of schooling can increase a person's income by an average of 10%.

Breaking Poverty Circles

Do you believe that Education is one solution to ending poverty?

  • Yes

  • No

One of the most significant impacts of education is its ability to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty. Children born into poverty face numerous obstacles, but access to quality education can level the playing field and provide them with the tools they need to succeed. Research indicates that children who receive a quality education are more likely to escape poverty as adults and contribute positively to their communities.

Global Goal 17 is a shining example of an organisation that recognises the transformative power of education in addressing poverty. Through its direct funding strategy and scholarship-driven approach, Global Goal 17 provides underprivileged children with access to quality education, empowering them to build brighter futures for themselves and their families. By breaking the chains of poverty at the root, Global Goal 17 is creating sustainable change that reverberates across generations.

Global Goal 17 Statistics:

  • Globally, over 260 million children are out of school, with poverty being a significant barrier to access.

  • Education reduces poverty by 10% for each additional year of schooling.

  • Children born to mothers who can read are 50% more likely to live past the age of five.

  • Closing the education gap between boys and girls could increase a country's GDP by 10% on average.

  • Educated individuals are more likely to invest in their children's education, creating a cycle of prosperity that transcends generations.

Education is a powerful weapon in the fight against poverty, offering hope, opportunity, and empowerment to those who need it most. Through initiatives like Global Goal 17, we can break down barriers, empower individuals, and create a brighter, more equitable future for all.
