PARTNERSHIPS

Global Goal 17 was founded in 2019 with the vision of creating a world where every child has the opportunity to thrive through education. Inspired by the United Nations SDGs, our organisation is driven by the belief that to meet the 17 SDGs by 2030, everyone must take direct and deliberate action; we have chosen SDGs 1 (No Poverty), 4 (Quality Education), 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)....hence our name- Global Goal 17.  Education is a fundamental human right and a catalyst for meeting the UN sustainable development goals, by 2030.

Vision

A world where every child has access to quality education, opportunities to thrive, and the support needed to break the cycle of poverty.

Goal

Empowering children through education and sports, building partnerships to achieve sustainable development goals and create a brighter future for all.

Our mission is to empower sustainable futures and end intergenerational poverty through equal education for all, one child scholarship at a time. We envision a world where every child has access to equal-quality education, breaking the cycle of poverty and fostering a sustainable future for all.

Charitable Objective

Our charitable objective is to take direct action to empower children from underprivileged backgrounds (with a focus on those from families subsisting on less than 60% of the median income in the country of residence or from ethnic

minority backgrounds), through educational support and scholarships. Nothing in our charitable objectives shall authorise an application of proceeds of Global Goal 17  foundation for purposes which are not charitable in accordance with section 7 of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act

2005 and section 2 of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.

GLOBAL CITIZENS & PARTNERSHIPS

Global Citizenship

Global Goal 17 embodies the values and practices of a Global Citizen through its unwavering commitment to building partnerships that transcend borders, cultures, and socio-economic divides. Our mission is to create a world where every child has access to quality education and opportunities for a better future. By collaborating with local schools, grassroots organisations, and sports clubs, we foster a global network of support that empowers communities and promotes sustainable development. Our inclusive approach ensures that marginalised communities are not left behind, aligning with the core principles of global citizenship.

Proof of Concept

Over the past three years, Global Goal 17 has made significant strides in our mission to end extreme poverty through education and sports empowerment. Our flagship initiative, the PENDO programme in Kenya, has directly supported over 500 children through scholarships and developmental programmes. This initiative has not only improved educational outcomes but has also fostered a sense of community and resilience among participants. Our impact is evidenced by improved school attendance rates, enhanced academic performance, and the personal success stories of children like Faith, Christian, and Clinton, who are now pursuing their dreams with confidence.

Disruption

Global Goal 17 has created a measurable impact innovatively by leveraging the power of partnerships and community engagement to disrupt the cycle of poverty. Our unique approach combines education with sports, using the latter as a tool to engage children, teach life skills, and promote physical and mental well-being. Unlike traditional charities, our model prioritises reaching the furthest behind first, ensuring no child is left behind. We work with local communities, including church leaders, community elders, teachers, and local officials, to identify the neediest children. These children are vetted to ensure that the most needy are prioritised. The support is directed to the school chosen by the community to educate that child. The school itself is then vetted and supported to have essential policies, such as a safeguarding policy, in place and is then certified to be part of the programme. This inclusive model can be replicated anywhere in the world and is a departure from the common practice of placing needy children in orphanages. Instead, we advocate for and support inclusive learning in mainstream schools, where children from poor backgrounds learn alongside their peers. Our holistic approach supports sports development, maths learning, languages, sciences, and PSHE, focusing on children living below 60% of the median income in the countries where they reside.

Scalability

With additional funding and resources, we plan to expand the PENDO programme to other regions in Kenya and beyond. Our scalable model, which integrates education and sports, can be adapted to various contexts, allowing us to reach more children and communities. Your support would enable us to establish more partnerships, train additional educators and coaches, and provide more scholarships, thereby amplifying our reach and effectiveness in combating extreme poverty.

Global Goal 17 has demonstrated a strong ability to adapt and evolve in response to changing conditions. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we quickly transitioned to remote learning and virtual sports sessions to ensure continuity in our programmes. We also provided essential resources such as internet access, learning materials, and health supplies to support our communities. Our adaptability is further evidenced by our continuous evaluation and improvement of our programmes based on feedback and changing needs. This flexibility ensures that we remain responsive and effective in our mission to empower children and eradicate poverty.
